PrsPrs guitar serial number

I am looking at buying a 2004 PRS McCarty this Sunday. The serial number is stamped instead of handwritten like my 2005 McCarty, is this legit? Captain_bob, Oct 2, 2009. Hi, i've just bought a brand new Gibson Es-335 Warren Haynes from the official italian dealer. The guitar is amazing, sounds great, but i've noticed that it has the serial number only on the sticker inside the 'f' hole, and the one on the back of the headstock is missing. From many pictures on the internet(worldguitars.co.uk, sweetwater, wildwood) i can see that the other 335 Warren Haynes have the serial number 'handwritten' on the back of the headstock.

I've just received an email from Gibson, in which they confirm that the guitar is legit and that i should have the serial number 'handwritten', and now they are asking me to ship back the guitar to their facilities in The Netherlands to have it done. To me it seems only a risk to have the guitar shipped back and forth just to have someone to handwrite xxx/500 on it, but i'd like to have your opinion about that. Will it lose value in case i decide to re-sell it in the future? Someone may think i changed the neck and the guitar is not original? I have the email that confirms that the guitar is legit, so maybe this should be enough to prevent that? Or should i ask for another Certificate of Authenticity?

Or the fact that Gibson made a mistake, make this guitar a little more special? Like one of a kind?

I think that this guitar should be a keeper, but with guitars i've learned that you will never know. I've bought, traded, sold many gears, and i don't want to make a mistake that can cost me money in the future. I'm not a collector, i buy guitars to play them, beat them up, enjoy every sweet moment they can give you, but again i don't want to make a mistake that can cost me money. What's the reason for limited or Signature series if then they are missing something that attest that they are really limited or special or custom production? So, what do you think? Every suggestion or opinion will be much appreciated Thanks.

Remember, just my opinion which is not worth much. The serial number is included on the guitar, just not on the headstock. So it really is a one off that got out without them doing the headstock. If I really like the guitar NOW, then I would not send it back to them and risk damage.

What if they put a major scratch in it, it becomes a 'he said, she said' situation doesn't it? You do have the email, so if you did want to sell it down the road and it became a sticking issue to prospective buyers then you could still send it back and have them add it. I think it's actually pretty cool that you have what may be a one of a kind. Do make sure you save that email. Hi, thank you all for your answers. I 've decided not to ship the guitar back.

The guitar sounds amazing and i've already found a great feeling with it. I won't risk to have it damaged for something that has nothing to do with the guitar and its sound. I have the mail from Gibson, i have the assurance of the official dealar (and his invoice) that will attest that the guitar is legit, in case i decide to sell it. I still think that this is a strange way for Gibson to fix their own mistakes, and an embarrassing situation for their Quality Control, for a guitar that they want to sell as exclusive, limited and custom.and not cheap! But the important thing is that the guitar is really good.chances are that people will beg me to sell it to them, once they hear how it sounds! Thank you again for your support.

Dean Every Dean guitar made in United States comes with a seven digit serial number that is printed on the back of the headstock (some 90s models may be stamped on the fretboard). First two numbers in the sequence will tell you when your guitar was produced. If you see a seven digit serial number on the back of a Dean guitar, you can be sure that it was produced in United States.

Dean's more affordable line made outside the US will indicate the country of manufacture, but production year requires looking at features and hardware and some knowledge of the line. Epiphone Below appear some of the serial schemes that an Epiphone serial can use. Happy hunting! YYMMFFRRRRR YY = year of manufacture MM = month of manufature FF = factory ID RRRRR = ranking number Example: 3 = 2008 / December / factory 15 / unit 20333 Note: Models from 2008 and onwards omit the factory ID letter prefix. Pre-1994 productions also frequently omit the factory letter codes and appeared as all digits, e.g. ---------------------------------------------- FYYMMRRRR F/FF = factory ID Y/YY = year of manufacture MM = month of manufacture RRRR = ranking number Example: 3021234 = Samick Korea / 1993 / February / unit 1234 Example: S3021234 = Samick Korea / 1993 / February / unit 1234 Example: S93021234 = Samick Korea / 1993 / February / unit 1234 Example: SI01021234 = Samick Indonesia / 2001 / February / unit 1234 Example: SI010212345 = Samick Indonesia / 2001 / February / unit 12345 Note: There may be no factory designator for some 1993 and earlier models.
